Choosing a tube amp head

A head gives you freedom to choose your own speaker cabinet, so you can shape the sound and the look of your rig. Check that the cabinet you plan to use is compatible with the amp output before you connect them.

An effects loop is useful if you like to use time-based effects such as delay and reverb, because they can sit after the preamp instead of in front of it. A footswitchable gain function is handy on stage or in the rehearsal room when you want to change your sound without touching the amp.
