What is the PRS Tekton?

The Tekton is a new family of guitars from PRS Guitars, launched on 20 October 2026. PRS developed it after years of requests from players for more modern PRS instruments: guitars with thinner necks, longer scale lengths, flatter fretboards, stainless steel frets and pickups that work well with digital modelers. In the words of PRS, this is not one new model but “a whole new family of guitars”.

The name comes from Ancient Greek. A tekton is an artisan or builder, in particular a woodworker or carpenter. The new pickups are called Stylus, an instrument used for writing.

All Tekton guitars are built in the USA and share the same platform: a new body shape, a thin Modern “D” bolt-on maple neck, an ebony fretboard with a 16″ radius, 24 stainless steel jumbo frets, PRS Stylus pickups with coil split and smoked black hardware. The differences are in the bridge, the body wood and the number of strings.

PRS Stylus pickups

The Stylus pickups were developed specifically for the Tekton family. PRS set out to make a set that is aggressive but clear, sounds good in every position, both as humbuckers and split, and works through tube amps as well as digital modelers.

They use Alnico 5 magnets. The six- and seven-string sets measure around 13k (treble) and 11k (bass) DC resistance. That is lower than many pickups aimed at modern high-gain playing, which gives more clarity and pairs well with digital rigs. They are not flat-response pickups, but their output is flatter than most PRS humbuckers. PRS tooled new bobbins to match the wider Tekton string spacing.

Six sounds from one switch

Each Tekton has one volume, one push/pull tone control and a 3-way blade switch. With the tone knob down, you get treble humbucker, both humbuckers and bass humbucker. Pull the tone knob up to split the coils for treble single coil, both single coils and bass single coil.

Body and neck

PRS started the Tekton body with a Vela, cut weight from it and combined it with the classic PRS Custom shape. The result has a shallow violin carve, an exaggerated scoop for upper-fret access and a belly carve. The Tekton body is the thinnest PRS has made in standard production.

The neck is the thinnest PRS neck in standard production, with a more “D” shaped profile so it does not feel cramped. Hormigo strength rods, similar to the carbon fibre rods PRS uses in acoustics and the Chleo signature model, add stability and rigidity.

String spacing is the same as on the PRS Silver Sky and Fiore, slightly wider than traditional PRS spacing, for sweeping arpeggios and precise pick attack. Artist feedback led to the new offset dot inlays and the choice of a 16″ radius. PRS retooled to bring stainless steel frets into production for this family.
